Camden
Fire Department |
This page and the other pages in this series are the successors to the series of web-page about the Camden Fire Department that began with the page Camden Fire Department: The Fires of the Summer of 2011. On this and other pages in the series you will find pictures and information regarding different events and aspects of the fire service in Camden, New Jersey. With the clock running down on a long and distinguished career, Captain Manny Martinez of Squad 7 had only two tours left before he called it a career. I made a point of being on hand for this one, as I had a prior commitment for his last scheduled tour on November 23rd. First stop in Camden was not at Squad 7, however. There had been a fire overnight in a vacant house being used by squatters and drug addicts at 836 Pine Street that had badly damaged the two occupied homes on either side. I stopped there to get some pictures and met up with the good people from Ladder 2 who were inspecting the scene. After that I went over to Squad 7 on Kaighn Avenue and rode with them to Liberty Station. The day was pretty quiet, save for an interesting run to South 8th Street for a reported gas leak. The gas leak turned out to be pesticide, as the house in question was being bombed for cockroaches. As with the web page covering other Camden Fire Department events, if you can identify anyone that I've missed, please e-mail me. (I'm terrible at at names and faces). Phil
