Captain Manny's Next-to-Last Tour

This page and the other pages in this series are the successors to the series of web-page about the Camden Fire Department that began with the page Camden Fire Department: The Fires of the Summer of 2011. With the clock running down on a long and distinguished career, Captain Manny Martinez of Squad 7 had only two tours left before he called it a career. I made a point of being on hand for this one, as I had a prior commitment for his last scheduled tour on November 23rd.

First stop in Camden was not at Squad 7, however. There had been a fire overnight in a vacant house being used by squatters and drug addicts at 836 Pine Street that had badly damaged the two occupied homes on either side. I stopped there to get some pictures and met up with the good people from Ladder 2 who were inspecting the scene.

After that I went over to Squad 7 on Kaighn Avenue and rode with them to Liberty Station. The day was pretty quiet, save for an interesting run to South 8th Street for a reported gas leak. The gas leak turned out to be pesticide, as the house in question was being bombed for cockroaches.
