Camden
Fire Department |
This page and the other pages in this series are the successors to the series of web-page about the Camden Fire Department called Camden Fire Department: The Fires of the Summer of 2011. On this and other pages in the series you will find pictures and information regarding different events and aspects of the fire service in Camden, New Jersey. On the morning of December 17, 2011 the Camden Fire Department's new fireboat, the GEORGE M. JACKSON, was dedicated. This boat was obtained through a federal grant procured solely through the efforts of members of the Camden Fire Department, with some assistance given by Congressman Rob Andrews. The boat was named after George M. Jackson, a Camden firefighter who died as a result of injuries suffered while fighting a fire on Arnold Street. The boat is kept at the marina at Wiggins Park, near the mooring of the battleship USS NEW JERSEY. The ceremony was held at the Adventure Aquarium, at the foot of Mickle Street. In attendance were present and former members of the Camden Fire Department, members of the Jackson family including his wife and children. firefighters and officials from other communities, Mayor Redd, Assemblyman Wilson and many others. The Camden County Emerald Society performed, and fireboats from Delaware City, Delaware and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania also took part. After the ceremony was over a small reception was held at the B.U.F.F. Hall on Princess Avenue for the Jackson family and the participants. I shot a few pictures of the GEORGE M. JACKSON before it left the marina for the ceremony, then went over to the Aquarium. Dave Hernandez and Joel D. Bain were also taking pictures and some of their work may appear on this page at a later date. As there is a lot of work to be done from events over the last two weeks, I will come back to this page and caption the photographs as best possible at a later date, also. As with the web page covering other Camden Fire Department events, if you can identify anyone that I've missed, please e-mail me. (I'm terrible at at names and faces). Phil
