This page and the other pages in this series are the successors to the series of web-page about the Camden Fire Department called Camden Fire Department: The Fires of the Summer of 2011. On this and other pages in the series you will find pictures and information regarding different events and aspects of the fire service in Camden, New Jersey. At 9:01 PM on October 5, 2011 a two-story house at 513 Chestnut Street in South Camden was destroyed by fire. This building was heavily fortified with iron security bars. Camden Fire Department units were dispatched, the first arriving at 9:04 PM. The fire was placed under control at 9:23 PM. The home was left a total wreck. One firefighter sustained an injury during this event. Fire dispatcher Matt DeGailler gave the following account of the incident: The following companies were dispatched to 513 Chestnut Street at 2101 hours for report of a dwelling fire, Squad 7, Engine 10, Engine 1 (Second Source), Ladder 2, Ladder 1, Ladder 3 (FAST Truck), and Battalion 1. A sheriff's officer on scene reported that there possibly were people trapped inside the building. Ladder 2 arrived 2104 hours with heavy fire showing from a heavily fortified dwelling. Battalion 1 arrived and reported a 2 story dwelling fully involved, striking the All Hands, which brought Engine 9, Engine 11 (Resource Engine), and Car 3 (Deputy Chief DiPascale). At 10 minutes Battalion 1 reported 2 lines stretched and operating, truck companies opening up and performing primary search, fire darkening down. At 20 minutes Battalion 1 reported the fire knocked down, and companies operating with extensive overhaul. The fire was declared under control at 2123 hours. As with the web page covering other Camden Fire Department events, if you can identify anyone that I've missed, please e-mail me. (I'm terrible at at names and faces). Phil
