and his Funky Dogs: *** *** *** |
2007 2007 has been a very good year in some ways, a very sad year in others. Livia, whom I met at the dog park, got married in November of 2006, and I moved to Pennsauken a month later. This was painful, because everybody could not come. Dominic and Yogi came with me. I gave the house I own in Camden to my adult son, the one condition being that he take good care of Buddy, Fats, and Bart. As I drive past there on my way to and from work, it's not hard at all to make sure things are ok, still, it's not the same as having them with you. What with moving and coming and going, I haven't been taking many pictures af anything at all, so for the first 8 months of 2007 there were no pictures. Heck, I'm STILL unpacking to an extent, and I moved to Pennsauken 9 months ago! Weather permitting, Livia and I go to the dog park at Cooper River every Saturday and Sunday morning. We haven't taken Bart there since the weather got hot, as he really struggles with extreme heat. Sunday August 5 was a typical dog park day... Livia and I took Gigi, Dominic, and Yogi to the park for about maybe an hour-and-a-half, before it got to hot for them, then went home. Around noon Yogi went out to do his business, and his heart finally gave out.... he'd been diagnosed with an enlarged heart a year or two back. It still was a real shock, and I'll tell you, I miss that fat boy every day. We went back to the park the following weekend.... on August 11th the sun was out... was it ever! I took a few shots but it was so bright that I'm only going to post a few... I'm not happy with the pictures I took. A few days later I got an e-mail from my friend Maria about her dog. She had a black shepherd-husky mix named Lucy, who has been featured on this website in more than a few pictures. Maria has been ill for a while, and I've "dog-sat" Lucy a couple of times. Maria wrote that due to her illness she could not take care of Lucy properly and could I help out. Before I got married and moved out of Camden I'd have given Lucy a home in a minute.... in fact, I was keeping a bowl open on the floor for her... the canine equivalent of a seat at the dinner table. In 2007, however, that call isn't all mine to make, so Livia and I went about trying to find a good home for Lucy. I e-mailed many friends, who were very helpful, and by Sunday, August 19th we found a new home for Lucy. Losing Yogi was hard, but finding a good home for Lucy sort of makes up for it. Her new family will be bringing her to the dog park regularly, so hopefully you will be seeing a lot of her, Gigi, Dominic, and the rest of our canine pals.

A question that many people have asked... and many others should ask... is "What can I do to help my country in this time of war. The answer is in the link below. This program was started by the operator of the animal information site www.netpets.org, shortly after the 9/11 terror attacks, after learning of thousands of pets put to sleep during the first Gulf War because service men and women had nowhere to board them. STEP UP AND DO YOU PART FOR AMERICA! Phil
